Phone-shot footage can absolutely work — in YouTube ads, the first five seconds of the message and the strength of the CTA matter far more than production value. Many successful campaigns run on natural, authentic-looking video; over-polished studio aesthetics can sometimes disconnect rather than engage. Three things are critical: audio quality (poor audio kills watch time directly), adequate lighting, and a clear message flow. If you want creative production included in the scope, that is quoted separately — during the free analysis we assess your existing materials and map a path forward.
Three core formats and when to use each: Skippable in-stream — appears before or during a video, the viewer can skip after 5 seconds, no strict maximum length (15-30 seconds is the practical recommendation); the most flexible format for awareness and conversion, charged only when the viewer watches 30 seconds or the full video. Non-skippable in-stream — maximum 15 seconds, no skip button; used when you need to deliver a complete message to a broad audience, typically for brand awareness campaigns. Bumper — 6 seconds, unskippable, shown between in-stream placements; ideal for brand recall and frequency building, most effective as a complement to a skippable campaign. The right choice is determined by campaign objective and budget — we decide together during the analysis.
YouTube/Google Ads targeting layers work differently from Google Search — and this is an advantage. To target competitor channels or specific videos, Placement targeting is used: your ad appears directly on the competitor's channel or on the specific videos you select. With Custom Segments (formerly Custom Intent), a segment is defined based on users who have been searching for particular queries on Google Search — this captures users with buying intent who have not yet converted, reaching them while they are on YouTube. Combining both builds a narrow, high-intent audience that overlaps with your competitive landscape; in sectors where Google Search CPC is high, this targeting typically delivers more cost-efficient reach.
Key budget factors for YouTube ads: target CPV (cost per view) or CPM benchmarks, which vary by industry and targeting tightness; the weekly view or reach volume you want to achieve; and campaign objective (awareness, remarketing, or conversion). Starting with a smaller budget and scaling once placement and targeting data accumulate is generally the healthier approach. During our free analysis call we prepare a realistic budget range and expectation framework for your sector and objective.
Metrics tracked vary by campaign objective. For awareness campaigns we follow view count, view rate, CPV, and Brand Lift Survey data where available. For conversion-focused campaigns, Google Ads conversion tracking, last-click and view-through conversions attributed to YouTube, and CPA are reported. Monthly performance reports cover total spend, channel and placement breakdowns, top-performing formats, and strategy recommendations. You can request direct access to the Google Ads account at any time.
